Screen Printing Shirts and Your Business

Screen printing shirts are very popular for those who wish to commemorate certain events like graduations or reunions, as well for those who wish to make political or fashion statement. Shirts come in all sorts of colors and designs and might mention the name of a concert, company, sports teams, restaurant, super markets, construction, kids camps, gyms, churches, or a school event. Printed shirts are almost everywhere if you start to look for them.

While it may seem that screen printing is a modern invention, this idea is incorrect. This type of service was first developed in China in around 1000 AD. The printing method spread to Japan and other Asian countries. However, at this time, this method was not used! Screen printing was introduced in Europe in the late 18th century. Again, it was used irregularly and most certainly at this time they did not consider screen printing shirts.

Samuel Simon patented the screen printing process in 1907. Back then, it was used for creating designs on wall paper, linen, silk, and other fine quality fabrics.

Originally only used for industrial technology reasons, this type of printing became popular with the general public after artists began to use the techniques in the 20th century. Artist Andy 咭片 Warhol made the technique extremely popular with his artwork of Marilyn Monroe. Today, this service is used for artistic and commercial reasons. It is used to print images on materials of many different types including posters, DVDs, paper metals and wood. Screen printed shirts are very popular and are worn by people of all ages.

Screens are made of a finely woven fabric called mesh. This material is stretched over a frame of wood. Areas of the screen are blocked to form a stencil of the image to be printed. The screen is put on top of a material like paper and ink is placed on the screen and pressed down to dye the fabric in certain patterns. Today, the most often used method to press the dye down on the fabric, especially when printing shirts, is the rotary method.

Screen printing is eco-friendly in that the screens can be re-used after cleaning. If the screen is no longer being used for a particular print run, then the screen can be cleaned and used again or another printing job.
